CONCEPT

For me Nature is a never ending source of inspiration. Just wondering around. In stillness or all sensory perceptions wide opened. Since a few years I discovered eco-printing. The wonderful

world of steaming structure and color of flowers, plants and trees onto textiles. Hundreds of experiments well organized and stored in boxes. Experiments with different natural textiles, mordants, natural dyes, shapes, colors, structures, textures, compositions and in applied arts.

For this exhibition I selected a few experiments with eucalyptus bark. Inspired by those small experiments I made bigger works. Every time I’m astonished about the richness of nature.

1. Jacket inspired by workwear, made from a vintage linen tablecloth with the embroidered initials of the previous (unknown) owner, presumably from Germany.

2. White wide-leg trousers made from commercial linen. Origin unknown, presumably from China or via a route through China.

3. Jacket inspired by workwear, made from historical linen that is at least 100 years old, presumably from the Netherlands, Belgium, or France.

4. Grey wide-leg trousers made from ecological linen. Produced, processed, and bought in Belgium.

5. 9 Photos of blue objects that were positioned or placed in the workspace, each directly related to the outfits as part of the blue dyeing process. 1 Sheet of paper with handwritten thoughts from during the process.

6. A 10 minute meditative film of Dorien spinning flax on a spin toll. The music of Ada.Re is based on the sound of Dorien spinning on a spinning wheel.

CONCEPT

Dorien is a fashion designer and stylist who has always been searching for the deeper meaning behind the clothes we wear. Fashion reveals a great deal about the spirit of the times and what is happening in the world on many different levels. It also says a lot about the person wearing the clothing and how they feel.

Clothing, in itself, already tells a story — and that is exactly what Dorien aims to express through her work. In her search for how clothing can be sustainable in a fast-paced, commercial world, she found answers in designing with less waste during the production process. Since 2023, she has been exploring the origins of the materials she uses. Through working with local alpaca wool, growing her own flax, and becoming a steward of ‘The Linen Project’, she discovered that materials themselves also tell a story.

Her most recent work consists of two linen outfits made up of four garments, all made of linen, but each from a different type of linen. From vintage and handwoven to commercially unknown linen and linen that has been lovingly grown and processed. In telling the story of these materials, the plan was also to dye them with indigo before the deadline of an exhibition. Along the way, it became clear that when working with nature (the indigo dye bath) and combining that with commercial pressures, you have to remain flexible as a maker. This created an inner conflict, which she ultimately embraced as part of the work — because it, too, says a lot about the times we live in.

The art of Kaïzen

On Sunday April 14, 1912, at 11:40 p.m., the Titanic, the world's largest ocean liner, struck an iceberg on its starboard side and sank in less than three hours. Between 1,490 and 1,520 people perished, making this shipwreck the greatest maritime disaster in peacetime. In the months that followed, the commission charged with investigating the disaster noted that despite countless instances of negligence, the Titanic could have survived if it had had more watertight compartments. This tragic event, which changed the face of maritime engineering forever, is also a fascinating metaphysical metaphor. In the same vein, could we not consider, as popular psychologist Dale Carnegie advocated, that we could live our lives in watertight compartments to protect ourselves from hypothetical worries and live fully in the present moment? Going even further, could we imagine that the secret to success is to divide our projects into small, easily achievable units that would allow us to accomplish the whole in a pleasant and completely fluid manner? In Japan, there is a foolproof method for accomplishing anything: kaizen. Kaizen is like a eulogy to laziness. It means replacing work with desire, tackling a task without forcing yourself, just for fun and without worrying about the result. Just start and keep improving until you master an art or technique. Just one step at a time. One box after another.

CONCEPT

We are all part of a narrative. Stories that have been told and the ones that we tell, by any given medium. We share information via talking, music, art, newspapers, television, books, the internet et cetera, we transmit information. And the content of that information is created by the narrator and the listener, depending on the energy and conditioning of the person. It is a delicate and interesting field of perceptions, interpretations and projections. The game ‘the broken telephone’, where a message is whispered from one person to the next, shows we are not capable of telling a story without making it our own. So stories get distorted. There is no wrong or right, all is peachy. We all do what we can with what we know. I call my niece ‘Peachy’, she is the next generation. So what story do we tell to each other and the next generations? All is peachy is an ideology that everything is fine. We might not always be able to see, but at some point in life, that experience might get a different perspective on things. It’s about having trust, that all is good for something. Imagine we would not make ‘mistakes’, if everything was going well, how can we learn? Obstacles invite us to respond, to act, to learn and to create and evolve. 

So when we change the angle of how we see things, we gain a new perspective with potential new opportunities and possibilities. How exciting and powerful to be living in such a field. We can change our own and each others worlds. We are all in this together, we create this life together.

We might approach things in a different way, but there lies so much beauty, diversity and creativity in this, and this variety enriches us.

CONCEPT

Nourddin is a visual word artist who, from a young age, has had an obsessive fascination with language and communication. What especially captures his attention are metaphors, proverbs, and wordplay. By cutting and pasting fragments of these, he forms idiosyncratic, abstract phrases that encourage a more open interpretation of definition. He does this by looking at what something can become rather than what it must be. His aim is to move, activate, and connect by pausing to deconstruct traditional perspectives on life and rebuild them into inviting prompts for self- reflection and feeling. By now, he knows he is creating poetry and wants to elevate this art form into an interactive medium.

The artwork itself emerged as a concept by merging the words ‘plenty’ and ‘entity’ into the invented word ‘plentity’. It is a visual invitation to use language to discover the layered nature of an entity by questioning the framework of our own being.

CONCEPT

Lenzea has installed a performance art video “Superfluid Substitution”in the wooden cottage. In this video she expresses a polarity-based aspect of plenty.

Cleolenzea is an artist at heart and since her 20s she experiments with diverse media for performance art. A recurrent theme for her expressions is the unspoken madness of humanity and the polarisation of the human psyche. “In and Out of Polarity Productions” is her performance art group project, where a fusion of authentic emotional expression and theatrical exposure are being played with in order to explore inner spaces for self-healing.

CONCEPT 

Electronic guitar set with effects processors — a proposal that moves away from the conventional music, typically found on major stages, with its catchy lyrics and dance-inducing rhythms. This approach is closer to film music, placing sound in the background and us at the center of the experience. 

It is atmospheric music, built from sonic textures that evolve over time. It does not follow a traditional structure with a beginning, middle, and end, but rather unfolds as a continuous flow, aiming to create a sensorial and introspective space — an illusion of silence and solitude.
